The Learning.Spaces workshop on 26 June will now have a new time of 8am – 11am. This will give IUT attendees an opportunity to tour the Port Macquarie campus and a tour of the town.
More details of workshop sessions will be announced later on, however we can say we have a mix of topics ranging from student perspectives of learning and spaces, specialist spaces, sustainable campus design, lifelong learning approaches/challenges and active learning in a modern space.
There are many learning approaches that can marry up with contemporary physical learning spaces designs to help produce better graduates for the future. Learning approaches has many forms, such as active learning that can branch out to socially embedded learning, project based learning, student-centeredness focus, learner-generated content, co-creation activities, authentic activities, professional practice, interactive lectures, collaborative learning, peer instruction and many more. All these terms reflect the dynamic behaviour of staff and students in how we co-exist pedagogically using these new physical learning spaces. And so learning spaces are shifting from a mindset of just a physical place, but rather being integrated with virtual spaces, learning technologies and responsive furniture into learning approaches. Therefore it is about “being”, namely being the “third teacher”. In “learning environment archetypes”, the archetypes are characters that are part of a story and they too possess a story in themselves. The story is the learning.
The pre-conference workshop will take you on a journey of revealing some of these stories relating to learning spaces at the CSU Port Macquarie campus, technology and pedagogical approaches as examples of innovative teaching and on-campus experience for students. This will be a hands-on, sharing of experiences, case studies and interactive series of sessions.
